The Golden State Warriors have officially signed forward Kevin Knox II to a 10-day contract, the team announced. The move adds depth to the Warriors’ roster as they continue their push through the second half of the season.
Knox, a 6-foot-7 forward, has had an up-and-down NBA career since being drafted ninth overall by the New York Knicks in the 2018 NBA Draft. The former Kentucky standout entered the league with high expectations due to his size, athleticism, and scoring ability. However, he has struggled to find a consistent role in the NBA, bouncing between several teams over the past few seasons.
Most recently, Knox had a brief stint with the Detroit Pistons earlier this season before hitting free agency. Prior to that, he spent time with the Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, and New York Knicks. Though he has not lived up to his lottery pick status, Knox has shown flashes of potential, particularly as a floor-spacing forward who can knock down three-pointers and provide energy off the bench.
The Warriors, who are looking to solidify their rotation and add more versatility to their lineup, see Knox as a low-risk addition who could provide immediate help. Golden State has dealt with injuries and inconsistency this season, making the need for additional depth on the wing crucial. In his career, Knox has averaged 7.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 37.1% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range. While those numbers do not jump off the page, his ability to stretch the floor and contribute in short spurts could be valuable for a Warriors team that thrives on ball movement and perimeter shooting.
Golden State has previously had success with reclamation projects, giving struggling players an opportunity to revive their careers in their system. With experienced veterans like Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson leading the team, Knox will have a chance to develop in a structured environment.
