Breaking: Carolina Panthers Officially Cut Ties With Another Key Starter Due To…

The Carolina Panthers have released veteran cornerback Dane Jackson as part of their efforts to reshape the defense for the 2025 season.

Jackson joined the Panthers in March 2024 on a two-year, $8.5 million contract after spending four seasons with the Buffalo Bills. His tenure in Carolina was marred by a hamstring injury during training camp, which led to his placement on injured reserve. He was activated in October and participated in nine games, starting three. During these appearances, Jackson recorded 23 tackles, including one for loss, and defended two passes, playing 43% of the defensive snaps.

By releasing Jackson, the Panthers clear $3.35 million in salary cap space, though they incur $2.5 million in dead money.  This move allows the team to allocate resources toward developing younger talent in the secondary and addressing other roster needs.

Jackson, 28, was initially drafted by the Bills in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Over his five-year NFL career, he has accumulated 175 tackles, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles across 61 games, including 31 starts.
