The Las Vegas Raiders are set to enter free agency with a significant amount of cap space, allowing them to pursue impactful roster upgrades. According to Over the Cap, the Raiders are projected to have approximately $96 million available, ranking them second behind the New England Patriots in cap room. This flexibility comes at a crucial time, as the team needs reinforcements after a disappointing four-win season in 2024. One major area requiring improvement is the secondary. While cornerback Jakorian Bennett performed well, Jack Jones struggled, and slot corner Nate Hobbs, along with starting safeties Tre’von Moehrig and Marcus Epps, is set to become a free agent.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport examined potential trade scenarios for defensive standouts who might be moved this offseason. He identified Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander as an ideal fit for the Raiders. Davenport proposed a trade in which Las Vegas would acquire Alexander in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
In 2024, Alexander played in seven games, recording 16 tackles and two interceptions. Despite the limited action, he earned a solid 75.2 Pro Football Focus grade, ranking 24th among 223 qualifying cornerbacks. His last full season was in 2022, during which he delivered an impressive performance, earning a Pro Bowl selection with 56 tackles and five interceptions. Over his seven-year career, Alexander has made two Pro Bowls, notched 12 interceptions, and deflected 70 passes.
For the cost of a fourth-round selection, the Raiders would gain a veteran cornerback with the potential to play at an elite level. His presence would significantly bolster a young secondary, providing much-needed experience and skill to the defensive unit.
