Seahawks Show Interest in QB Jaxson Dart at NFL Combine
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald and general manager John Schneider have indicated that veteran quarterback Geno Smith is likely to remain the team’s starter for the 2025 season. However, that doesn’t mean the Seahawks won’t explore drafting a quarterback in April’s NFL Draft to develop behind Smith for the future.
At the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart confirmed that he has met with the Seahawks. Since teams are only allowed 45 formal interviews at the combine, this suggests that Seattle has at least some level of interest in the 21-year-old quarterback. Dart also mentioned that he has met with the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers.
“For the Seahawks, it’s been great to build a relationship with them,” Dart said. “They have an elite coaching staff and a ton of talent on their team, so it’s been a lot of fun sitting and talking ball.”
Dart is widely projected to be a late first-round or early second-round pick in what is considered a weaker quarterback draft class. He is generally regarded as the third-best quarterback prospect behind expected top-five picks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.
Seattle holds the No. 18 overall pick in the first round and No. 50 in the second round, which could put them in a position to select Dart if they choose to target a quarterback. Meanwhile, the Raiders have the No. 6 and No. 37 picks, and the Steelers hold picks No. 21 and No. 52.
Dart began his college career at USC before transferring to Ole Miss in 2022. Over three seasons with the Rebels, he set a school record with 10,617 passing yards. He steadily improved during his time in the SEC, capping off his college career with an impressive senior season. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound quarterback completed 69.3% of his passes for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. He also demonstrated his mobility, rushing for 495 yards and three touchdowns.
His standout performances included a dominant game against Arkansas in which he threw for a school-record 515 yards and six touchdowns. He also delivered an impressive showing in the Gator Bowl against Duke, throwing for 404 yards and four touchdowns. Dart finished his college career with a 29-10 record as a starter, including a 10-3 mark in his final season.
With the Seahawks evaluating their options for the future, Dart remains a potential target as they consider strengthening their quarterback depth behind Geno Smith.
