Notre Dame women’s basketball head coach Niele Ivey has been named to the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year Watch List, a recognition of her outstanding leadership this season.
Under Ivey’s guidance, the Fighting Irish have surged to a 23-2 record and are riding an impressive 18-game winning streak. Their dominance was further solidified when the latest AP Poll, released on Monday, ranked Notre Dame as the No. 1 team in the nation. This marks the first time the program has held the top spot since January 2019.
Now in her fifth season as head coach, Ivey has built an impressive resume with the Fighting Irish, compiling a 112-34 overall record. Her tenure has been marked by consistent success, as Notre Dame has finished in the Top 25 in each of the past three seasons and secured spots in the NCAA Tournament.
This season, Ivey’s squad is seen as one of the top contenders for the national championship. If they continue their dominant run, the Fighting Irish could secure the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Ivey, a former Notre Dame star herself, has seamlessly carried on the legacy of the program while building her own. Her ability to develop talent, implement a winning culture, and maintain the team’s high level of play has made her a strong candidate for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award.
As the season progresses, Notre Dame will aim to continue its winning ways and solidify its status as a championship contender under Ivey’s leadership.
