Good News: Packers Finally Land Potential Jaire Alexander Replacement To Active Roster

Packers Target Potential Jaire Alexander Replacement in PFN Mock Draft

The Green Bay Packers boast one of the youngest rosters in the NFL, featuring promising talent across various positions. However, uncertainty surrounding Jaire Alexander’s future with the team and Eric Stokes’ impending free agency could leave cornerback as a pressing need in the near future.

A recent mock draft suggests Green Bay could address this concern by selecting one of the most intriguing defensive back prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Packers Pick CB Shavon Revel Jr. in Latest NFL Mock Draft

Statistically, Green Bay’s pass defense performed well last season, ranking eighth in the league while allowing an average of 209.9 passing yards per game. However, concerns over depth and the opportunity to add East Carolina’s Shavon Revel Jr. led Pro Football Network’s Joe DeLeone to project the Packers selecting him at No. 23 overall.

DeLeone praised Revel, stating, “Shavon Revel Jr. is one of the most underrated prospects in this class due to an early-season injury in 2024. His length and range suggest he has the potential to become a perennial Pro Bowler.”

Alexander’s status with the Packers remains uncertain, but DeLeone believes pairing him with Revel could create the top secondary in the NFC North, saying, “A duo of Revel and Jaire Alexander would solidify Green Bay’s defensive backfield.”

Revel’s Upside and Injury Concern

Revel suffered a torn ACL early in the 2024 college football season, making his immediate availability somewhat uncertain. However, his instincts in diagnosing routes, physicality at the catch point, and ability to contribute in run support—combined with his athletic, lengthy frame—make him an intriguing addition to Green Bay’s secondary.

If the Packers decide to move on from Alexander this offseason, Revel could serve as a high-upside replacement. If Alexander stays, Revel would give head coach Matt LaFleur a strong outside cornerback to pair with him, while Keisean Nixon continues to develop at nickelback.

Packers’ Current Secondary Situation

The Packers opted not to exercise the fifth-year option for 2021 first-round pick Eric Stokes, meaning they are likely to lose a player who started seven games in 2024. However, Stokes’ underwhelming production—just one interception and 127 tackles in 45 games—suggests an upgrade was necessary.

Should Green Bay part ways with both Alexander and Stokes, the remaining cornerbacks on the roster would be Nixon and Carrington Valentine. The team could experiment with shifting Nixon or some of their versatile safeties, including Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, and Javon Bullard. However, if they lose two starting-caliber corners, the Packers would likely need to make aggressive moves in free agency or the draft to rebuild their secondary.
