QB Becomes Sixth Player to Decommit from Florida State’s 2025 Class
Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class took another hit as four-star quarterback Tramell Jones announced his decommitment from the program on Thursday morning. Jones’ decision marks the sixth departure from head coach Mike Norvell’s class during a difficult season in which the Seminoles have started 1-9.
Jones, a 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback from Jacksonville, Florida, is ranked by ESPN as the ninth-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2025 cycle. He had been the longest-committed player in Florida State’s class before deciding to reopen his recruitment. His decommitment comes just days after Norvell dismissed three assistant coaches, including offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins, following the team’s 52-3 loss to Notre Dame.
This latest departure further weakens a Florida State recruiting class that has suffered multiple setbacks amid the team’s struggles. Jones joins ESPN 300 recruits Myron Charles, Javion Hilson, Malik Clark, Daylan McCutcheon, and CJ Wiley in leaving the Seminoles’ 2025 class since the season opener on August 24. His exit reduces Florida State’s number of committed prospects to 12, including five ESPN 300 recruits, headlined by five-star offensive tackle Solomon Thomas, the No. 13 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle.
Before Jones’ decommitment, Florida State ranked No. 37 in ESPN’s 2025 recruiting rankings, with further changes expected in the coming weeks.
Now back on the recruiting market, Jones is among the top uncommitted quarterbacks as the 2025 cycle nears its final stretch. Florida has maintained contact with the four-year Mandarin High School starter, and sources close to the Gators believe they have a strong chance to land him following the school’s decision to retain head coach Billy Napier for 2025.
Florida will host several key recruits when it faces LSU on Saturday afternoon, while Florida State is off in Week 12 before hosting Charleston Southern on November 23.
