Breaking: Seahawks Projected To Cut Ties With $29 Million Former Pro Bowl NFL Star

The Seattle Seahawks may be preparing to part ways with veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett this offseason, as speculation grows regarding his future with the team. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently identified Lockett as a potential cut candidate, citing his declining production and significant salary cap implications.

Lockett, a longtime fan favorite in Seattle, struggled during the 2024 season, recording just 49 receptions for 600 yards and two touchdowns—his lowest output since 2017. While the Seahawks operated one of the NFL’s most pass-heavy offenses on early downs, Lockett’s role diminished, averaging only 35.3 receiving yards per game. Barnwell noted that his deep-threat ability has also declined, as he was targeted just 10 times on deep routes last season.

Financially, Lockett’s contract situation presents a major hurdle for the Seahawks. After restructuring his previous four-year, $69 million deal in 2024, he is now in the final year of a two-year, $29.6 million contract. However, due to the restructure, his cap hit for 2025 has ballooned to $30.8 million, making it increasingly difficult for Seattle—already $11.3 million over the projected salary cap—to retain him without another significant pay cut.

Given that he is now the team’s third receiving option behind DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Barnwell believes the Seahawks are unlikely to keep him at his current price.

Seattle could attempt to negotiate another contract revision with Lockett, but if no agreement is reached, he may be released. Should the Seahawks move on, Barnwell suggests that Lockett could reunite with former head coach Pete Carroll, who is now leading the Las Vegas Raiders. With the Raiders looking to build a strong offensive unit, Lockett could provide veteran leadership alongside young playmakers like tight end Brock Bowers and receiver Tre Tucker.

As the offseason unfolds, Lockett’s future remains uncertain. Whether he stays in Seattle on a revised deal or finds a new home with a team like the Raiders, his situation will be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
