ESPN REPORT: New Report Spells the End for Packers Veteran in Green Bay

Jaire Alexander’s Future in Green Bay in Doubt

The Green Bay Packers are entering an important offseason after their wild-card loss to the eventual Super Bowl champions. With over $40 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap, the team has financial flexibility to make roster improvements. However, this number will likely decrease due to roster cuts, contract restructures, and extensions. Despite that, GM Brian Gutekunst is expected to be active in shaping the team’s future.

Jaire Alexander’s Uncertain Status

One of the key decisions for the Packers revolves around veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander. He is set to earn $17.5 million in 2025, but given his limited availability over the last two seasons—appearing in only 14 games—his return at that price seems unlikely. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, there are strong indications that Alexander has played his last snap for Green Bay.

Injury Concerns and Team Frustration

Alexander, a Pro Bowler when healthy, has missed significant time in recent seasons. While he has excelled when on the field, he has played seven or fewer games in three of the last four seasons. Despite practicing intermittently since mid-November, he did not play another game and was eventually placed on injured reserve. Team sources have reportedly expressed frustration over his struggles with injuries and availability.

Financial Implications of a Potential Departure

Alexander still has two years remaining on the four-year extension he signed after his last Pro Bowl appearance. If the Packers choose to release him, they would save $6 million in cap space. However, designating him as a post-June 1 cut would provide greater relief, freeing up approximately $17 million.

What’s Next?

While it’s possible that Green Bay could keep Alexander for another season and explore trade options, that scenario seems unlikely. All signs point to the veteran cornerback’s tenure with the Packers coming to an end.
