Virginia Tech has lost its only commitment for the 2026 recruiting class as four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone has decided to decommit. Falzone, a standout from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, initially pledged to the Hokies in the summer of 2024 but has now reopened his recruitment.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Falzone is ranked as the 16th-best quarterback in the 2026 class by 247Sports. His decision comes amid Virginia Tech’s struggles on the field, as the team has fallen short of preseason expectations with a current record of 5-6, eliminating their chances of surpassing their projected win total.
On Wednesday evening, Falzone issued a statement explaining his decision:
“From the start, my family and I were welcomed with love and respect by everyone at Virginia Tech. I sincerely appreciate Coach Pry, Coach Bowen, and the entire Hokie community for their support and belief in my development. Blacksburg and the Hokies will always have my respect and gratitude.
After thoughtful discussions with my family, I realized I needed to make a change. It didn’t feel right to explore other opportunities while still being committed to Virginia Tech. I want to ensure I am fully engaged with every program recruiting me during this crucial period.
Now reopening my recruitment, I am eager for the next steps in my journey. I look forward to working hard this offseason, developing as a quarterback, teammate, and leader. This is a new chapter, and I am excited for the future.”
Even during his commitment to Virginia Tech, Falzone remained a target for top college programs. He visited Ohio State and Penn State while still pledged to the Hokies and is set to visit Iowa this weekend.
With his departure, Virginia Tech’s 2026 recruiting class is now empty, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to reset and refocus on new prospects for the next cycle.
