The Minnesota Vikings have signed quarterback Brett Rypien to a reserve/future contract, according to Craig Peters of the team’s official website.
Rypien initially joined the Vikings in late August after failing to secure a spot on the Chicago Bears’ 53-man roster following training camp. Throughout the regular season, he served as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens. However, on Jan. 7, Minnesota waived Rypien to create space for Daniel Jones on the roster. Just two days later, the Vikings re-signed him to the practice squad.
With his new futures contract, Rypien will be included on Minnesota’s 90-man roster when the new league year begins on March 12. This ensures he can work with the team’s coaching and training staff throughout the offseason, including participating in OTAs, minicamp, and training camp. Originally signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in April 2019, Rypien has played in 10 regular-season games during his career.
