According to Noah Strackbein of Sports Illustrated, Scott McCurley, a former linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys, is being interviewed by the Pittsburgh Steelers for the position of inside linebackers coach. The Cowboys fired McCurley, and he won’t be joining the new team that Brian Schottenheimer is assembling. McCurley is closely associated with Western Pennsylvania. Before joining the NFL, he graduated from Pitt, where he played football. Furthermore, McCurley was born in New Castle, which is only an hour north of Pittsburgh. McCurley is a Mohawk Area High School alumnus.
After three seasons as a graduate assistant at Pitt, McCurley emerged as a middle linebacker. When Mike McCarthy, the Green Bay Packers’ head coach at the time, hired him, another Pittsburgher helped him earn a promotion to the NFL. Before joining Dallas in 2020 as the linebackers coach with McCarthy, McCurley would gradually go from quality control coach to assistant linebackers coach. He lived in Dallas during the years 2020–2024. He aided in the development of players like Micah Parsons and Demarvion Overshown during his time with the squad. Marist Liufau, a rookie linebacker, had a strong 2024 season as well. Aaron Curry left the Steelers to take on the role of inside linebackers coach, and the team is now searching for a new coach.
