Breaking: Philadelphia Phillies Part Ways With Another Veteran Infielder Who Turn Down New Contract Offer And Join Rivals

As of January 10, 2025, the Philadelphia Phillies have made several roster adjustments involving infielder-turned-pitcher José Cuas. Initially claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays in September 2024, Cuas was designated for assignment on December 23, 2024, to make room for newly signed pitcher Joe Ross. After clearing waivers, Cuas was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he remains a non-roster player with an invitation to the Phillies’ big league camp for spring training.

Cuas, 30, transitioned from an infielder to a sidearming right-handed reliever and has accumulated a career 4.37 ERA over 119 1/3 innings in the major leagues. His journey to the majors is notable, having worked as a FedEx driver and playing in independent leagues before making his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals in 2022.

There is no current information indicating that Cuas declined a contract offer from the Phillies or joined a rival team. He remains within the Phillies organization, aiming to secure a spot on the major league roster for the upcoming season.
