Ohio State quarterback Will Howard is emerging as a potential option for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 NFL Draft. Howard capped off his lone season with the Buckeyes in spectacular fashion, leading them to a national championship—an ideal ending to his collegiate career.
Heading into the 2024 season, Howard was seen by many as a possible weakness for Ohio State. However, he quickly proved his doubters wrong, playing a crucial role in the team’s title run. Without him under center, it’s questionable whether the Buckeyes would have won it all.
Now, Howard is preparing for the next step in his football journey: the NFL. While he may not be one of the top names in the draft class, he is gaining attention as a sleeper quarterback prospect for teams looking to add depth at the position.
One of the more intriguing projections for Howard’s NFL future comes from Colton Edwards of FanSided, who listed the Dallas Cowboys as a potential destination. Edwards also predicted Howard could be selected in the second round—a significant jump from earlier projections, which had him as a fourth- or fifth-round pick, or even lower.
Although there is no certainty that Howard will be drafted as high as the second round, a strong pre-draft process could solidify his stock. Regardless of when he is selected, he has the tools to develop into a successful professional quarterback.
During the 2024 season, Howard put up impressive numbers for Ohio State. He threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing 73.1% of his passes. He also contributed as a runner, adding 226 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
If Howard were to land with the Cowboys, he would have the opportunity to compete for the backup role behind Dak Prescott. Learning from an experienced starter like Prescott could help him refine his skills and adjust to the NFL game. Over time, he might even compete for playing time.
Howard possesses a strong arm, solid leadership qualities, and notable athleticism. While Dallas is just one of several teams that may consider drafting him, it stands out as a particularly intriguing fit for the Buckeyes’ championship-winning quarterback.
