Top-100 Defensive Line Recruit Decommits from LSU
LSU football has lost a key commitment from its 2026 recruiting class, as four-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy announced his decision to decommit from the Tigers. McCoy initially pledged to LSU in early January, but with plenty of time before his final college decision, he has opted to reassess his options.
Recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett shared the news, stating, “BREAKING: Four-Star DL JaReylan McCoy has Decommitted from LSU, he tells me for @on3recruits.” Standing at 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds, McCoy, a Tupelo, Mississippi native, has been a highly sought-after prospect, ranking among the top 100 players in the 2026 class. He currently holds 34 scholarship offers.
According to 247 Sports, McCoy is ranked No. 79 overall in his class, the No. 6 defensive lineman, and the fifth-best player in Mississippi. He plays for Tupelo High School, where he has shown flashes of his potential but still has room to develop.
Scouts describe McCoy as a physically gifted lineman with versatility in his positioning. While he has showcased impressive skills, his production dipped as a junior while playing in a rotation for Tupelo’s state championship-winning squad. However, he has demonstrated an ability to generate pressure from the interior in an odd-front defense.
McCoy’s scouting report highlights his strengths, particularly his 36-inch arms, which allow him to create an advantage. However, he needs to improve his lower-body engagement and technique to reach his full potential. Considered a developmental prospect, McCoy has a high ceiling but will need to refine his game at the next level.
With his recruitment back open, McCoy has several top programs vying for his commitment, including Alabama, USC, Texas A&M, Florida, Penn State, and Tennessee. While LSU continues to build a strong 2026 class, losing McCoy is a setback. However, the Tigers remain a powerhouse in recruiting and will look to secure other high-caliber prospects.
