Indiana Fever Signs Six-Time WNBA All-Star DeWanna Bonner
The Indiana Fever have officially signed six-time WNBA All-Star and two-time champion in free agency. Bonner, who spent the past five seasons with the Connecticut Sun, reunites with Fever head coach Stephanie White, under whom she previously played in Connecticut.
Bonner is one of the most accomplished players in league history, ranking fourth all-time in WNBA scoring with 7,482 career points. She is just six points away from surpassing Hall of Famer Tina Thompson for third place. Among active players, she is also second in career rebounds (3,067), steals (603), and three-pointers made (2,052).
Originally drafted fifth overall in 2009 by the Phoenix Mercury, Bonner won a championship as a rookie. She has been named WNBA Sixth Player of the Year three times and has made six All-Star appearances, most recently in 2024.
Fever COO and General Manager Amber Cox praised Bonner’s impact, calling her one of the greatest players in WNBA history. “She is a versatile scorer, can play multiple positions, and thrives in big moments. Her success is a testament to her work ethic and competitive spirit,” Cox said. “She’s an incredible leader and teammate, and we’re thrilled to have her join the Fever.”
During the 2024 season, Bonner averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. She has helped lead her teams to the playoffs 14 times, only missing the postseason once.
Bonner, an Auburn University alum from Fairfield, Alabama, expressed her excitement about joining the Fever. “I’m grateful to be part of an organization that’s committed to growing women’s basketball,” Bonner said. “I look forward to bringing leadership and experience to help this team return to championship form. Most importantly, I’m excited to meet my teammates, the staff, and the incredible Fever fans.”
The Fever will begin their 2025 season at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on May 17 against the Chicago Sky.
