Ohio State 5-Star WR Commit Responds to Michigan’s Reported Offer
The Ohio State Buckeyes may have just secured a national championship, but they’re already battling to retain top talent and recruits. Shortly after their title victory over Notre Dame, reports surfaced that star wide receiver had received a $4.5 million NIL offer to transfer. While Smith appears to be staying put, the Buckeyes now face another recruiting challenge.
On Wednesday, Michigan recruiting insider EJ Holland reported that the Wolverines are eyeing five-star Ohio State wide receiver commit Chris Henry Jr. Holland suggested Michigan has the NIL resources to pursue Henry, particularly as a weapon for elite quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood.
Henry wasted no time in responding. On social media, he posted an image of Ohio State wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Brian Hartline smoking a cigar following the Buckeyes’ national title win—a strong signal that he remains committed to Ohio State.
While Henry’s response suggests he’s not wavering, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and his staff will likely stay vigilant in reinforcing his commitment as they look ahead to the 2026 season.
