Florida Assistant Coach Taurean Green Faces Sexual Assault Allegation Amid Investigation into Head Coach

University of Florida assistant men’s basketball coach Taurean Green has been accused of sexual assault by an anonymous athletics department employee. The employee filed a Title IX complaint on Tuesday, alleging the incident occurred in March 2024, according to ESPN.

Neither the university nor Green has responded to requests for comment regarding the accusation.

This development follows an ongoing investigation into head basketball coach Todd Golden, who faces accusations of sexual exploitation, harassment, and stalking. Golden, in his third year coaching the Gators, was publicly accused in November after a complaint was filed in September 2023.

Florida’s basketball program is ranked fifth in the AP Top-25 poll this season, further magnifying the allegations’ impact.

The complaint against Green alleges that he arranged a meeting with the employee in the athletic facilities, during which he kissed her and attempted to place his hand down her pants. The woman reportedly pulled his hand away and said no, but Green tried again before she escaped. She stated that prior to this incident, she had no personal interaction with Green beyond casual greetings on campus.

Initially, the employee did not report the incident, fearing Green’s status within the department. However, she decided to come forward after being contacted by Title IX investigators working on the case against Golden. In mid-December, she reported her allegations to the school’s deputy athletics director, Amy Meyers Hass. Hass declined to comment, citing confidentiality.

Green, a former Gators player, was part of the team’s back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007. Drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2007, he also played for the Denver Nuggets before a lengthy overseas career ending in 2021.

The investigation into Golden alleges he sent inappropriate images and videos, made unwanted sexual advances via Instagram, and requested sexual favors. He has also been accused of stalking women, including taking photos of them or their cars and appearing at locations where they were present.

Golden has denied wrongdoing, claiming participation in the inquiry and consulting an attorney for potential defamation claims. His contract prohibits relationships with students or anyone under his supervision, and disciplinary actions can be taken for behavior harming the university’s reputation.
