Astros Manager Expresses Hope for Alex Bregman’s Return: ‘Our Arms Are Open’
Although MLB free agency began over two months ago, Alex Bregman remains unsigned. The two-time All-Star third baseman has played his entire career with the Houston Astros, contributing to two World Series championships. However, Bregman and his agent, Scott Boras, declined the Astros’ six-year, $156 million contract offer earlier this offseason, leaving his future uncertain.
Despite the stalemate, Houston remains hopeful about bringing Bregman back as spring training approaches. Astros manager Joe Espada, speaking last week, emphasized his strong relationship with Bregman and his ongoing communication with the player during the offseason.
“Well, he hasn’t signed with anyone yet, right? So, we’re still open,” Espada said. “Our arms are still open. The door’s still open. There’s always a chance, right? But for now, we’re in discussions not only with him but with other free agents as well. We’ll see what happens.”
Last season, Bregman showcased his consistent offensive ability, hitting 26 home runs over 145 games. While his future remains undecided, the Astros continue to hold out hope for a reunion.
