LSU reserve quarterback was hospitalized in stable condition after an early-morning car accident near campus on Thursday. The incident occurred when Hurley’s vehicle collided with an oak tree in Baton Rouge.
According to emergency responders, Hurley was found unresponsive but breathing by the Baton Rouge Fire Department shortly before 3 a.m. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Health for treatment. LSU Police, who also responded to the scene, have not disclosed the potential cause of the accident. Officials stated their report would not be publicly available for at least seven to 10 days.
Hurley, a 17-year-old freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, has not yet played for the Tigers. LSU deferred any comments about the situation to Hurley’s family due to his status as a minor.
In a statement released through the university, the family expressed their gratitude to first responders, medical staff, and LSU fans for their support and compassion. “Colin is resting and is stable while more tests and care are being administered,” the statement read. “We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident.”
The LSU community continues to send well wishes to Hurley as he recovers.
