Virginia Tech Football Secures Defensive Lineman Ben Bell
Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry continues to strengthen the Hokies’ 2025 roster with the addition of standout defensive lineman Ben Bell.
Bell, a 6-foot-2, 255-pound defensive end, announced his commitment to Virginia Tech on Thursday. The Cedar Park, Texas, native began his college career at Louisiana Tech before transferring to Texas State, where he played the last three seasons. Despite appearing in just four games last season to preserve his redshirt, Bell brings impressive career stats, including 31 tackles for loss and 19 sacks.
A highly sought-after transfer, Bell chose Virginia Tech over offers from Ole Miss, Minnesota, Baylor, Kansas, and others. Initially rated as a four-star transfer by On3, Bell is expected to make an immediate impact on the Hokies’ defensive line. He joins fellow transfer James Djonkam as an early favorite to start at defensive end next season.
The Hokies have significant shoes to fill at edge rusher following the graduation of All-American Antwaun Powell-Ryland, who recorded 16 sacks last season, as well as Cole Nelson. Bell, Djonkam, and Keyshawn Burgos are among the top candidates to step up in their absence.
Bell’s commitment marks the 18th transfer addition for Virginia Tech, further bolstering one of the nation’s top transfer classes. This success is especially notable as the Hokies have achieved it without a defensive coordinator currently in place. An announcement on the new coordinator is anticipated soon.
With his proven ability to disrupt opposing offenses and his experience at the collegiate level, Bell is a key addition to Virginia Tech’s defense. Fans and coaches alike are eager to see him contribute to the Hokies’ success in the upcoming season.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Ben Bell.
