Auburn Lands Commitment from Son of Former NFL First-Round Pick Dexter Carter
The Auburn Tigers continue to dominate in recruiting, adding another impressive talent to their 2026 class with wide receiver Devin Carter. Ranked as the nation’s No. 5 wide receiver and No. 26 overall player by ESPN, Carter is a standout from Douglas County High School in Douglasville, Georgia.
Carter, the son of former Florida State star and 1990 NFL first-round pick Dexter Carter, brings exceptional skills and upside. Known for his ability to separate from defenders, Carter’s 2024 stats include 41 receptions, 669 yards, and five touchdowns, despite playing in a balanced offense that limits his touches.
Auburn’s recruiting class is currently ranked No. 6 nationally by 247Sports, and Carter’s commitment further bolsters their wide receiver group. One highlight play against Carrollton High School showcases his athleticism and awareness as he tightroped the sideline, made a leaping grab, and stayed inbounds. Carter’s speed, hand-eye coordination, and ability to make tough catches in traffic make him a dangerous weapon.
At 6 feet tall and 165 pounds, Carter consistently faces bracket coverage and defensive schemes designed to limit his impact, yet he continues to shine. Auburn’s wide receiver depth, including top recruits like Malcolm Simmons, Cam Coleman, Bryce Cain, and others, will make it difficult for opposing defenses to focus solely on Carter. This environment should create opportunities for him to excel in a variety of roles.
Carter is adept at catching both deep balls and shorter passes, using his agility to evade defenders and turn short gains into big plays. His ability to make defenders miss in single coverage is likely to result in significant yards and long touchdowns.
Though Carter still has one more season at the high school level, Auburn fans have every reason to be excited about his arrival in 2026.
