Latest ESPN News: Former 49er Top Experienced Superstar Confirms He Wants To Return In 2025

49ers’ Expected to Return for 2025 Season

San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams is expected to return for his 14th NFL season in 2025, according to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.

“Trent’s mindset is where it always is, and he’s still very interested in being the great player that he is,” said general manager John Lynch. “I think he’s still got a lot left in the tank. Trent’s as committed as ever, and we love having him as part of us.”

At 35 years old, Williams missed the final seven games of the 2024 season due to a bruised ankle joint. Despite the injury, he remains one of the league’s top offensive tackles when healthy. However, his prolonged absence may prevent him from earning a fourth consecutive first-team All-Pro honor. Although retirement speculation has surrounded Williams in recent years, he has expressed interest in playing until he turns 40.

For 2025, Williams will reunite with center Jake Brendel, right guard Dominick Puni, and right tackle Colton McKivitz on the 49ers’ offensive line. However, left guard Aaron Banks is set to enter free agency and could command a high price following the significant rise in guard salaries last year. The 49ers may prioritize securing a long-term deal for quarterback Brock Purdy, potentially making it challenging to retain Banks.

Williams’ return ensures stability for San Francisco’s offensive line as the team looks to build on its recent success.
