NaLyssa Smith’s Release Sparks Rumors of a Potential Move to Unrivaled
NaLyssa Smith, a forward for the Indiana Fever and teammate of Caitlin Clark, has been released by the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of China. This unexpected development has fueled speculation about Smith potentially joining Unrivaled, the new 3v3 basketball league launching in Miami later this month.
In a statement, the Golden Bulls announced: “After friendly negotiations between both parties, our club has amicably broken up with American player NaLyssa Smith. The club will continue to search for suitable foreign players.”
Fans quickly took to social media, with one commenting, “She wants to go to Miami. Best she asked out.” Another added, “NaLyssa Smith, you ARE Unrivaled.”
However, Smith’s brother, Rodney, clarified the situation, stating her release was due to an ankle injury. Responding to speculation, he confirmed, “Her track record with that ankle hasn’t been the best,” but noted the injury wasn’t severe.
Despite the buzz, there currently seems to be no immediate spot for Smith in Unrivaled, as all roster positions are filled. However, the landscape could shift after news broke that Cameron Brink, signed to Unrivaled’s Lunar Owls, won’t participate in the inaugural season. Brink is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in June.
While Brink focuses on her recovery, she expressed gratitude for being part of Unrivaled, stating: “It’s a great opportunity to be here around the best players and have great teammates. I hope to get stronger and advance in my recovery process.”
For Smith, the future remains uncertain, but her release and injury have certainly sparked intrigue about her next move. Fans will be closely watching whether Unrivaled becomes her next destination.
