Good News: Son Of Former Kansas State Coach Officially Commits To Kansas State Wildcats Football Over Alabama

Kansas State Lands Transfer Cornerback

Kansas State football has added Amarion Fortenberry, a standout cornerback from South Alabama, to its roster. Fortenberry chose the Wildcats over offers from Alabama, Houston, and Nebraska following a visit to Manhattan. His commitment was confirmed by Young Money APAA Sports, as reported by ESPN’s Max Olson.

Fortenberry made an immediate impact as a true freshman at South Alabama, starting eight games and recording 45 tackles, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions during a 7-6 season. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 8th-best cornerback in pass coverage among Sun Belt players facing 50+ targets. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 175 pounds, he missed only two tackles across 597 defensive snaps and also contributed over 100 special teams snaps.

Hailing from Columbia, Mississippi, Fortenberry was a high school star at Columbia High. As a junior, he earned district MVP honors, and as a senior safety, he was named First-Team All-State. His senior year included a trip to the state championship game and impressive stats: nearly 1,800 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns. He also participated in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game. Despite offers from Memphis, Ole Miss, and Washington State late in his recruitment, Fortenberry honored his initial commitment to South Alabama.

At Kansas State, Fortenberry joins a promising cornerback group under position coach Van Malone. He will team up with fellow sophomore Zashon Rich, experienced underclassmen Kanijal Thomas and Donovan McIntosh, and veteran Justice James. The unit will also be bolstered by Jayden Rowe and a talented freshman class, including RJ Collins, Martel Jackson, Jojo Scott, and Serious Stinyard.

Fortenberry’s addition strengthens Kansas State’s defense as the Wildcats aim for success under head coach Chris Klieman.
