Breaking: New Orleans Saints Reach Agreement To Hire Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy In Huge Move

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly considering Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as a candidate for their head coaching vacancy. This comes after the Saints parted ways with Dennis Allen in November and appointed special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Darren Rizzi as interim head coach. While Rizzi is expected to be a contender for the permanent role, Nagy’s experience and success are drawing significant interest.

Nagy, a two-time Super Bowl champion, has an extensive history with the Chiefs. He served as their offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017, following two years as the quarterbacks coach. After a stint as head coach of the Chicago Bears, which ended in 2021 after a disappointing 6-11 season, Nagy returned to Kansas City as a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach. He regained the offensive coordinator role in 2023 when Eric Bieniemy departed for Washington. Under Nagy’s guidance, the Chiefs have maintained their position as one of the league’s top offensive teams.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Saints are expected to express serious interest in Nagy. Meanwhile, Rizzi remains a viable option for the full-time head coaching position, having stepped in during the midseason transition.

The Saints’ interest in Nagy is part of a broader landscape of coaching changes across the NFL. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has also hinted at aspirations to return to a head coaching role, stating that while his focus is currently on the team’s playoff preparations, he is open to future opportunities. His comments come at a time when several organizations, including the Jets, Bears, and Saints, are exploring head coaching options.

Despite this movement, Kansas City appears set at the top. Head coach Andy Reid recently signed a five-year extension, silencing any speculation about his retirement and ensuring stability for the Chiefs organization. For the Saints, securing Nagy would mark a significant step in reshaping their coaching staff and rebuilding their competitiveness in the NFL.
