ESPN REPORT: Green Bay Packers Officially Hire Another New Coach Today

Packers Add Veteran Coach Luke Getsy Ahead of Playoff Push

The Green Bay Packers are gearing up for another playoff run with quarterback Jordan Love leading the way. After narrowly missing a trip to the NFC Championship last season, the Packers are making strategic moves to strengthen their team for a deeper postseason push.

To bolster their preparation, the Packers have brought in former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to serve as an advisor for the defense. This move mirrors head coach Matt LaFleur’s earlier decision to enlist veteran defensive coach Robert Saleh to assist with offensive strategy.

Getsy Joins Packers as Defensive Advisor

Getsy was spotted at practice on Friday as the Packers prepared for their regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears. While this marked his first in-person involvement, LaFleur revealed that Getsy had been contributing remotely for weeks.

“It’s great to have him back around,” LaFleur said. “He’s a positive presence and offers valuable insights. I’ve worked with him before and have a lot of trust in his perspective.”

Getsy, nicknamed “the mayor” in Green Bay, is no stranger to the Packers. He served as the team’s quarterbacks coach under LaFleur from 2019 to 2021, working with Aaron Rodgers during two MVP seasons and helping develop Jordan Love. He also held roles as passing game coordinator before leaving to become the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator in 2022. After stints with the Bears and Raiders, Getsy was let go by Las Vegas in November 2024.

A Strategic Move for the Playoffs

With Getsy advising Jeff Hafley and the defense, and Saleh supporting LaFleur and the offense, the Packers now have two veteran coaches providing fresh perspectives across both sides of the ball.

The Packers will conclude their regular season against the Chicago Bears on Sunday at noon (CT) and await their wild-card round opponent as they aim for a deeper playoff run.
