Breaking: Former Most Loved Packers coach Officially Name New Green Bay Packers…

Former Packers Coach Luke Getsy Returns in Consultant Role

Luke Getsy has made a notable return to the Green Bay Packers organization. As reported by The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, Getsy, previously the Packers’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, is back in Green Bay in a unique capacity. Getsy had left the Packers in 2022 to become the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, where he was granted play-calling duties—a responsibility Packers head coach Matt LaFleur retained for himself in Green Bay.

Following his stint with the Bears, Getsy took on the role of offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. However, after a challenging start to the season, he was dismissed on November 3. Interestingly, since Getsy’s departure, the Raiders have shown improvement, securing consecutive wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints with backup quarterbacks.

On Friday, LaFleur revealed that although Getsy had not been physically present in Green Bay until this week, he had been aiding the Packers’ defense remotely by analyzing and deconstructing opposing offenses. This “analyst” or “consultant” role is not new for LaFleur, who previously enlisted former NFL coaches for similar tasks.

Notably, Robert Saleh, a former New York Jets head coach and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, has been helping the Packers’ offense by breaking down defensive strategies. Additionally, Aubrey Pleasant, now with the Los Angeles Rams, served in a similar role for Green Bay in 2022.

Getsy’s return sparks speculation about his potential future with the Packers. Current offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, who assumed the position when Getsy left for Chicago, could eventually be lured away by a team offering him play-calling duties. If that happens, Getsy might have the opportunity to step into the offensive coordinator role in Green Bay before securing another position elsewhere.
