Former Kansas State Basketball Coach Jack Hartman to Be Inducted into College Basketball Hall of Fame

Jack Hartman, a legendary figure in Kansas State basketball history, will be honored posthumously with an induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. This recognition highlights his remarkable contributions to collegiate basketball and cements his place among the sport’s greats.

Hartman is one of eight individuals selected for this prestigious honor, joining other luminaries like Wayne Estes from Utah State and John Rudometkin from USC. During his tenure as Kansas State’s head coach from 1970 to 1986, Hartman achieved 295 victories and built an impressive postseason legacy. His leadership guided the Wildcats to two Big Eight championships, three Big Eight tournament titles, and seven NCAA Tournament appearances. Hartman was named Big Eight Coach of the Year twice (1975 and 1977) and received the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coach of the Year award in 1981.

Between 1971 and 1982, Hartman consistently led Kansas State to finish in the top two of the conference standings, with the exception of the 1977-78 season. His influence on the program remains deeply felt, even after his passing in 1998 at the age of 73. Hartman’s legacy continues to resonate in Manhattan, Kansas, and now extends to the Hall of Fame in Kansas City.

Coach Jerome Tang on Coleman Hawkins’ Dedication

Following Kansas State’s victory over Cincinnati, current Wildcats coach Jerome Tang praised Coleman Hawkins for his commitment to the team. “He cares,” Tang noted. “Coleman often comes to me with ideas and a willingness to contribute in any way needed to achieve something special. His passion sometimes weighs heavily on him, but it’s because he truly cares.”
