Virginia Tech Football Gains Notable Transfer Commitments
Virginia Tech football continues to strengthen its roster as head coach Brent Pry makes strategic moves in the transfer portal. What once appeared to be a challenging period for the Hokies has turned into a productive rebuilding effort. In recent developments, two former West Virginia offensive linemen, including Kyle Altuner, have committed to Virginia Tech, showcasing Pry’s ability to attract top talent.
On Monday, Kyle Altuner, a former four-star prospect, announced his transfer to Virginia Tech, joining offensive line coach Matt Moore in Blacksburg. Altuner is the second offensive lineman from West Virginia to make this move, following the recent commitment of Tomas Rimac. Rimac, a veteran with three years of starting experience for the Mountaineers, is expected to step in as an immediate starter for the Hokies, with one year of eligibility remaining.
Altuner, who redshirted during the 2023 season, brings four years of eligibility to the table. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 290 pounds, Altuner was a highly sought-after recruit from Olney, Maryland. During his high school career at Our Lady of Good Counsel, a renowned football program, he excelled as a tackle. However, he is anticipated to transition to guard or center for Virginia Tech, potentially becoming a key interior lineman for the team by 2025.
While the Hokies have faced the loss of 16 players to the transfer portal, many of these departures involved players who were not prominent on the depth chart. Notable exits include left tackle Xavier Chaplin, now at Auburn, and cornerback Mansoor Delane, who joined LSU. Despite these challenges, Pry has successfully restocked the secondary with five transfer additions and continues to make impactful moves.
The addition of Altuner and Rimac is significant, not only for their individual talent but also as a testament to the program’s draw under Pry’s leadership. Moreover, whispers suggest that more former West Virginia players could follow coach Moore to Virginia Tech, further bolstering the Hokies’ roster.
For Hokies fans, Altuner’s arrival marks another positive step in rebuilding the team. With his potential to contribute for years to come, he is a welcome addition to the program.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Kyle Altuner!
