The Baltimore Ravens have officially released wide receiver Diontae Johnson following a suspension for refusing to enter a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson, who had been acquired from the Carolina Panthers ahead of the NFL trade deadline, now finds himself without a team after a tumultuous year.
Johnson’s 2024 journey has been anything but stable. He began the year as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing in a playoff game in January. In March, he was traded to the Panthers in a deal that included cornerback Donte Jackson and a pick swap. Midseason, Johnson was sent to Baltimore, only for his tenure with the Ravens to end under controversial circumstances.
Now, the question arises: Should the Steelers consider bringing Johnson back for their playoff run?
From a football perspective, the answer seems clear. Johnson would instantly bolster Pittsburgh’s receiving corps, likely slotting in as the No. 2 receiver on the perimeter. His familiarity with the team and his proven skill set make him an appealing option, especially as the Steelers prepare for the postseason. While it would take some time to reacclimate Johnson to the offense, the team could use the remaining weeks of the regular season to integrate him effectively.
The move appears to be a win-win situation. Johnson, having experienced the challenges of two new teams, might be eager to return to a familiar environment. For the Steelers, adding a dynamic playmaker to their roster could provide a much-needed boost in their quest for playoff success.
Whether Pittsburgh makes the move remains to be seen, but reuniting with Johnson could be a strategic decision that pays dividends in their postseason aspirations.
