After losing to the Cincinnati Bengals this past weekend, the Las Vegas Raiders and head coach Antonio Pierce are beginning to lose control of their situation.
After losing 41–24, the Raiders dropped to 2–7 on the regular season and were essentially eliminated from the playoffs. Joe Burrow was able to throw all over the field and pile up five touchdown passes because Las Vegas was a complete mess on both ends, especially defense.
The Silver and Black appear confused offensively since their quarterback isn’t producing any quality play. Desmond Ridder replaced Gardner Minshew, who had been selected to start for the Raiders, late in the third quarter.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pierce said he is unsure between Minshew and Ridder for the starting lineup in the upcoming Week 10 game against the Miami Dolphins:
Raiders Head Coach After his team returns from its impending bye, Antonio Pierce told reporters he hasn’t determined who would call plays or who will start at quarterback.
After the team opted to fire former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, Pierce also needs to pick who will be leading the offense. Neither Ridder nor Minshew have proven they can lead the team with the few offensive options left on the roster, and neither is a good starting quarterback.
Ridder managed to record the team’s lone touchdown throw, although Minshew passed for more yards versus the Bengals. It appears like Pierce could accompany Ridder at this point in order to have a closer look at the young signal caller.
However, without Davante Adams, it will be difficult for Las Vegas to carry the football downfield regardless of who Pierce starts. The Raiders are severely deficient in explosive receivers that can overwhelm a defense and win in the middle sections of the field, even with Brock Bowers’ rise to prominence.
If Pierce is unable to turn things around in the second half of the 2024 season, team owner Mark Davis is in for another exciting summer that may bring some significant changes.
The Raiders aren’t tanking, according to Antonio Pierce.
There are rumors that Pierce and company are tanking for a better draft selection in the forthcoming 2025 NFL Draft since the Raiders are having trouble winning. Pierce, however, argued that he and the squad weren’t losing on purpose and blamed it on the group’s poor behavior.
