Boston — The Boston Bruins might have lost badly after giving up a two-goal lead against the Calgary Flames in the third period.
Luckily for the Black and Gold, the Bruins won 4-3 thanks to a goal from captain Brad Marchand with just 20 seconds left in the extra period.
Defenseman Hampus Lindholm of the Bruins remarked, “He’s really good one-on-one.” “… He resembles a pit bull exactly. He simply never leaves it alone, like flesh and bone. He prevails in his conflict. He’s hungry, and in this league, that’s how you score three-on-three.
Nine seconds into the third period, Marchand was given a roughing penalty. The Flame scored a power-play goal as the tenacious forward was seated in the box, reducing the margin to 3-2.
“It’s a terrible punishment to accept. “It was a bad game time,” Marchand remarked. In a situation like that, the beginning of the session typically determines how your team will perform for the duration. I really wanted to make amends because it’s a terrible sentence to accept. We received the two points, which is excellent, but it doesn’t make up for it.

Jim Montgomery, the head coach of the Boston Bruins, saw that Marchand was acting “desperate” not just in the beginning of the third period but also from the beginning.
Montgomery remarked, “I thought he was desperate the entire game.” He had a few rounds fired from the posts. He was, in my opinion, at the top of his game. He was skating nicely, in my opinion. He is an excellent leader, so his capacity to bounce back and keep going—his second and third efforts—needs to spread across our team.

He gave Elias Lindholm credit for his perseverance on the puck, which allowed the play to develop, even if Marchand’s goal sealed Boston’s victory.
“After the faceoff, he did a fantastic job chasing the puck,” Marchand said. “I believe he pounced on the D after sort of starting to jump on it.” The rest is history. They did a fantastic job winning the battle and putting it out in front.

Marchand currently holds the team record with 21 overtime goals in his career. His 79th game-winning goal puts him third in Bruins history, behind only Patrice Bergeron (81) and Johnny Bucyk (88).
