The Boston Bruins held practice at Warrior Ice Arena on Tuesday before starting a three-game road trip against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. The team had just returned from a disheartening 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers at the TD Garden on Monday afternoon. We’ll start the most recent Boston Bruins News there since Boston coach Jim Montgomery changed up his lines a little during practice.
Montgomery jumbles up the drill lines
Montgomery, who was hoping to get his top six going, complimented the fourth line, which has been one of their stronger lines, but expressed frustration with their recent performance. Montgomery changed both their locations and the manner in which drills are carried out on Tuesday.
Max Jones took over Brad Marchand’s slot on the second line alongside Charlie Coyle and Morgan Geekie after the player skipped practice due to what Montgomery referred to as a maintenance day. Defenseman Mason Lohrei was teamed with Charlie McAvoy, Andrew Peeke was paired with Nikita Zadorov, and Hampus Lindholm was paired with Brandon Carlo.
Additionally, Montgomery switched up the drills a touch, with the fourth line leading them rather of beginning at the top and working their way down, according to Scott McLaughlin of WEEI. Montgomery clarified after practice that it was unintentional, but feel free to interpret it anyway you see fit.
Marchand Maintenance Day
It was a maintenance day for Marchand, as was previously announced, so this is not surprising. With their captain returning off a busy summer of surgeries, the Bruins will be playing every other night to start the season against Colorado. As the season progresses, there will also be several maintenance days.
Tyler Johnson is still working out.
Like Danton Heinen did the previous season, Tyler Johnson, who was in training camp on a PTO, is spending some time in Boston without a contract. If he remains here, it seems like the former Stanley Cup champion of the Tampa Bay Lightning may have something in the works.
