Kicker Anders Carlson is being added to the practice squad by the San Francisco 49ers, as reported by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. If recently signed Matthew Wright is unable to participate due to an injury to his shoulder, the Niners will need insurance.
In 2023, Carlson was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round. During his time with Green Bay last season, he made 27 out of 33 kicks, however he missed half of his efforts from 40 to 49 yards, while kicker succeeded on three of his five attempts from 50 yards and beyond. Five of Carlson’s 39 efforts at extra points were also unsuccessful.
A year earlier, in the NFC Divisional playoff game against these same Niners, Carlson missed a 41-yard field goal that would have put the Packers ahead by seven with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Rather, he failed to make the field goal, and San Francisco won the game with a touchdown.
When head coach Kyle Shanahan talks on Wednesday, we’ll learn more details regarding Wright’s injuries. Tuesday is a player-off day.
