After the Indiana Fever’s early playoff exit, the 2024 WNBA season has come to an end, and guard Kelsey Mitchell has now finished her eighth season in the league. Alongside Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, Mitchell had the best season of her career.
She was named a WNBA All-Star for the second time in her career and assisted Indiana in making their first postseason berth since 2016. In addition, the former Ohio State Buckeyes standout averaged career highs in shooting percentage (46.8%) and points per game (19.2). The Fever have celebrated a great season by praising their players on social media. Indiana honored Mitchell on Thursday by awarding her a new monicker.
The Fever posted on X, “Kelsey Mitchell is a certified bucket.” After the WNBA returned from its Olympic hiatus, Mitchell and the Fever played even better. For seven straight games during that span, Mitchell scored 20 points or more, setting a record for Indiana and establishing herself as a “certified bucket.”
Mitchell had committed to staying at Indiana for three years, paying $618,000, before to the 2022 season. However, her contract expires this offseason, making her an unrestricted free agent. General manager of the Fever Linn Dunn has stated categorically that she intends to have Mitchell return for the 2025 season and beyond.
All negotiations, however, have now been turned over to Kelly Krauskopf, the team’s new president of basketball and business operations, who was previously employed by the Fever from 2000 to 2017.
