The Boston Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman recently inked a new deal, and high expectations are placed on him.
But he did sign his contract a few days before the NHL regular season began. The Bruins have little time to be ready for their goalie’s arrival because of that. Indeed, many thought Swayman would simply prove to be more durable and that Joonas Korpisalo would have to be the starting pitcher going forward.
According to reports from yesterday, Swayman has a good chance of playing in tonight’s season opener against the Florida Panthers. The Bruins would probably prefer him over Korpisalo, after all. That being said, it appears that Jim Montgomery accompanied Korpisalo on this occasion.
It appears that this was the team’s best option, and you can’t really blame them for taking it because Swayman was likely rusty after his vacation. The last thing you want is a shaky goalie that is incapable of winning games for you.
When Swayman is able to make his Bruins debut this season is a matter of time. But at this point, it’s probably going to happen sooner rather than later. He has sixty-six million reasons to play like a Vezina goalie, so hopefully it doesn’t let him down. Fans of the Bruins will hope he does.
