John Samuel Shenker, a former Auburn tight end, is expected to make his NFL debut on Sunday after the Las Vegas Raiders signed him to their active roster on Saturday, the NFL team confirmed.
In May 2023, Shenker signed as an undrafted rookie with Las Vegas. Despite spending the most of that time with the organization, he has never participated in an NFL regular-season game. The Raiders take on the Cleveland Browns at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CDT.
The Raiders added the tight end to their practice squad last season following Shenker’s release during the roster reduction that took place between the preseason and the regular season. Despite being dismissed twice, he played the majority of the season there and was able to spend a week on the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals.
Shenker re-signed with the practice squad this season after being cut at the conclusion of the preseason.
Two more former Auburn players were promoted from NFL practice squads to the active roster on Saturday, allowing them to participate on Sunday. Shenker had previously been on the practice squad.
The Arizona Cardinals have activated defensive tackle Angelo Blackson to play in his tenth NFL season. The Cardinals play the Washington Commanders on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. CDT at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The Chicago Bears have activated defensive tackle Byron Cowart from their practice squad to the active roster for the third time in his last four games. He participated in both Sunday’s 21-16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts and September 8’s season-opening 24-17 triumph against the Tennessee Titans by the Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears take on the Los Angeles Rams at Soldier Field on Sunday at 12:00 CDT.
If Cowart is going to play for the Bears this season after Sunday, he needs to be on the active roster. For every NFL game, two practice squad players may be promoted to the active roster by their respective teams; however, a player may not be promoted more than three times.
