Because of the disagreement between Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins, there have been numerous trade rumors surrounding the goalie.
Swayman appears to have different expectations from the Bruins regarding a long-term contract. As a result, there has been more conjecture over a transaction, and intriguing ideas are beginning to surface online.
For example, NHL Trade Rumor claimed the Anaheim Ducks’ John Gibson may be a target for the Bruins. Given that they believe Swayman has the potential to be a franchise goalie, the Ducks may even be prepared to part with Gibson and a first-round selection.
Swayman’s acquisition by the Ducks is a calculated risk. They are counting on him to develop into a franchise goalie and provide stability for their developing core for many years to come. With players like Trevor Zegras, Leo Carlsson, and Cutter Gauthier, among others, on its roster, Anaheim is poised to make the playoffs.
Getting Swayman on board might be the spark that gets them into the postseason, maybe even as soon as the next year.
Notwithstanding the reasoning, the Bruins would not benefit from a trade for Gibson at this time. Gibson recently underwent surgery, so he might be sidelined for some time. The Bruins just wouldn’t want to trade for a player who is unlikely to be ready for opening night.
