The Bruins are aware that things in Boston are becoming more repulsive than they had anticipated. For this reason, the team is actively getting ready to live without Jeremy Swayman for at least the next few months, as talks over a contract extension with the 24-year-old goalie are currently at an impasse.
Swayman will continue to hold fast to his position and refuse to accept a settlement he doesn’t think is fair since he is still suffering the effects of a stressful arbitration process, according to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic. Shinzawa wrote on Friday, “Swayman remembers every slight and uses them as motivation.” “He is indifferent to criticism. His memory is quite long.”
To address Swayman’s anticipated holdout, the Bruins have already begun to fill the void. Veteran goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo was signed by the organization to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) on Thursday. In what appears to be Boston’s backup plan in the event that the Swayman discussions continue, Kaskisuo will be joining depth alternatives Brandon Bussi and Ryan Bischel. Joonas Korpisalo, who was acquired in a trade that sent Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this offseason, is not included in that group of backups that is now starters.
Regarding Swayman’s negotiating position, Shinzawa said, “For now, (Swayman) is committed to the term and salary he wants, whatever that may be.” “So for the time being, Swayman is unwilling to bend to his employer.”It fits with the way he is. Swayman has a great deal of self-confidence.” The Bruins appear to be preparing for a protracted impasse based on their determination to look into alternative goaltender possibilities.
In the meanwhile, assuming the talks between the team and Swayman remain unchanged, Korspisalo talked about the story and his new position as the Bruins’ starting goalie. According to Korpisalo, “it doesn’t change my job and, quite frankly, I just want to focus on my job,” stated on Thursday. Naturally, he’s a terrific man. He and I worked together prior to the camp. Fantastic goaltender, great guy.”merely concentrating on myself.”
