Jeremy Swayman is one of the top goaltenders in the whole NHL, yet, as it stands, he is in a contract dispute with the Boston Bruins.
It has been stated that Swayman seeks a long-term deal of $10 million per year. However, the Bruins are simply not willing to give him that. In reality, it was rumored that the Bruins only intended to give him $6.2 million per year and that his deal would only continue for a dismal four years. It is getting out of hand and according to sources, it might be getting a whole lot worse.
According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, a critical mass is being approached. In fact, a holdout seems like Shinzawa doesn’t envision a contract getting done prior to training camp.
‘I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes into camp and he’s not signed. I think we’ve come to know Jeremy as someone who is extremely sure of himself, very confident, quite secure in what he’s done and what he can be.’
If this is the case, then Swayman could ultimately be shooting himself in the foot. If he holds out, he risks disrupting his rhythm for when the regular season finally starts. Not to mention, this would be disastrous for the Bruins who need their primary goaltender available, especially following the Linus Ullmark deal. No matter what, this scenario has gone on too long and it is starting to have some genuinely negative impacts.
