Johnston wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “He’s one of the few available LW options and is viewed as a high-character veteran that is expected to land a PTO before training camps open next week.”

Van Riemsdyk played 71 games for the Boston Bruins past season, tallying 11 goals and 27 assists. The veteran received recognition for participating in 1,000 NHL games in March. Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci, and Zdeno Chara were among the 391 players who have attained this milestone.

The 35-year-old made his NHL debut during the 2009-10 season with the Philadelphia Flyers. With them for two stints totaling eight years, he participated in 527 games and scored 146 goals.

The teams who are interested in the attacker are unknown, but van Riemsdyk demonstrated last season how easily he can adapt to a new squad when he clicked right away with linemates Trent Frederic and Charlie Coyle. Van Riemsdyk demonstrated unequivocally that he would find a way to create an impact on the ice regardless of who he was next to, even when Bruins coach Jim Montgomery switched the lines.

Montgomery remarked during Boston’s 4-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets in January, “We’ve moved him around a bunch, and whatever’s best for the team, he just really fits with the Bruins culture of whatever’s best for the spoked-B is what he’s gonna do and whatever we ask of him.”

Van Riemsdyk hopes to play for a 16th season in the future.
