A’ja Wilson and the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces faced up against the Indiana Fever, led by Caitlin Clark, on Wednesday night. The two clubs will play again on Friday, September 13, following this first game of a doubleheader. Wilson scored her 12th point of the game and her 941st of the season with a midrange two-point shot with 26 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
By doing this, she surpassed Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm to become the all-time top in WNBA single-season scoring. Last season, Loyd set the initial record with 939 points in a season. Wilson only needed 35 games to reach this goal, whereas Loyd needed 38 games. Throughout the season, Wilson—a two-time WNBA MVP—has been the overwhelming favorite to take home the MVP trophy.
Her average of 27.3 points and 2.7 blocks per game leads the league. With 11.9 rebounds per game, she trails Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese in that category as well. In the 2018 draft, the former standout from South Carolina was chosen with the first overall choice. She guided the team to consecutive titles and hopes to make it three in a row this postseason.

Before the matchup with Indiana, they had a 22–13 record and were the fourth seed in the playoffs.
