The Indiana Fever ended their seven-year playoff drought just five months after selecting Caitlin Clark with the first overall pick. They are currently only 2.5 games behind the Seattle Storm, who are ranked as the No. 5 seed in the WNBA. Undoubtedly, Clark’s arrival contributed to the Fever’s success, as they already had a strong core of core players in Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and NaLyssa Smith.
Even though the Fever have been excellent this season, two-time NBA All-Star and 2014 Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah feels that there was one major error made by the team with regard to Clark:
they neglected to insert some strength into the lineup to cushion the blows that the player has received over the course of 36 games. ” Many players are worried that Clark could be on the verge of an injury because he has been flagrantly fouled multiple times this season (mostly against the Chicago Sky) and has also been the target of numerous dubious knocks from rival players.
Five out of the 31 flagrant fouls committed by the entire WNBA have come against Clark, accounting for 16% of the total. These worries probably got much worse when Sky rookie Angel Reese revealed on Saturday that she had suffered a wrist injury that would terminate her season. Clark, who has been playing at an MVP level since the Olympic break, will only become more well-known the better she performs.
