It wasn’t only Caitlin Clark who stole the show on Sunday, September 1, as the Indiana Fever beat down the Dallas Wings, 100-93, to notch their fourth consecutive victory. All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell caught fire in this one as well, erupting for 36 points on 12-of-22 shooting, to go along with six rebounds, three assists and five triples.
Clark wasn’t terrible herself either, blazing off for 28 points, four boards, 12 dimes and five triples. Combined, Mitchell and Clark scored 64 points on 53.7 percent shooting. They also went 10-of-18 from beyond the arc to lead Indiana to its sixth win in seven games played since the month-long Olympic break.
It wasn’t until after the triumph, however, that Mitchell was able to completely realize exactly how wonderful her connection with Clark was on the evening. Upon learning about their eye-popping figures, Mitchell was left in shock, stating just one word to adequately encapsulate her emotion to her remarkable feat with Clark. “Wow,” Mitchell stated. USA TODAY NETWORK When challenged to attempt to explain her scorching hot streak with Clark in Indiana’s backcourt, Mitchell tried her best to try and put things into context. “I think that me and Caitlin, as well as our crew, I think we just found a way to, for one, understand one another,” Mitchell said. “I think our pace is kinda setting us apart from a lot of different teams.” I see no lies here.
In their last five games, Mitchell and Clark are averaging an incredible 50.4 points combined. This famous pair will now try to keep their foot on the accelerator for their upcoming game. This comes in the form of a matchup against the bottom-seeded Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, September 4. Expect more fireworks from these two in that one.
