Veteran running back Josh Jacobs decided to test the market and eventually ended up with the Green Bay Packers, where he eventually replaced Aaron Jones, who was unexpectedly released by the venerable team, after he was unable to reach an agreement with the brass of the Las Vegas Raiders during NFL free agency during the offseason.
Despite his dissatisfaction with the Raiders’ contract negotiations and his lack of feeling respected or wanted in Las Vegas, veteran back Jacobs vowed not to betray the team after playing his whole NFL career there. Jacobs said recently that he was not having it when the Kansas City Chiefs, who play in the same division, expressed interest in signing him in free agency.
Jacobs discussed his free agency experiences in an interview with Don Pompei of The Athletic. With the Raiders prepared to let him go and other clubs, including the Chiefs, vying for his signature, he made it clear that he would not sign with a team he had come to detest.
He said, “They were really trying to get me.” However, I had no intention of going there. As soon as you are rivals, you really dislike that person, in my opinion. I didn’t think I looked good in that color. In addition, I’ve always aspired to be the guy on the dominant team. My goal is to be the player who overcomes the team in control.
Fans of the Silver and Black will be happy that Jacobs showed some loyalty by declining to sign with the Chiefs, even though he is now pursuing his NFL career with the Packers after playing his first five years with the Raiders.
The Raiders will proceed with Zamir White as their lead running back going forward, as Jacobs is going to Green Bay. White has garnered positive feedback during the offseason, which is encouraging for a strong 2024 NFL season for the talented young back.

Josh Jacobs failed to convince the Las Vegas Raiders to re-sign him in NFL free agency, despite being probably one of the best running backs in the league. The two-time Pro Bowler found it easy to sign with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent after receiving an offer from the organization.
While the Raiders brass was unyielding in their contract negotiations, Jacobs acknowledges that he wanted to sign a big long-term deal to return to Las Vegas. As a result, it appeared inevitable that he would go elsewhere.
