To choose their starting kicker for the 2024 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers went in a different direction. The kicker position has been a complete mess ever since the team opted to part ways with Mason Crosby following the 2022 season, a year in which he made 86.2% of his field goals and 94.9% of his extra point attempts.
In the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Green Bay chose to pick Anders Carlson over signing the team’s all-time top scorer again. The Packers would be plagued by that choice for the duration of the season.
Carlson converted 81.8% of field goals and only 87.2% of his efforts at extra points. Carlson had a terrible run in the latter part of the season where he failed to make at least one kick in ten out of twelve games, including both of Green Bay’s postseason contests.
For instance, he failed to make a field goal during Green Bay’s three-point loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Divisional Round.
