The Boston Bruins and Stanley Cup winner Tyler Johnson have formally inked a Professional Tryout Agreement.
The Boston Bruins’ general manager, Don Sweeney, disclosed that he signed Tyler Johnson to a PTO through a press release:
BOSTON – General Manager of the Boston Bruins Don Sweeney announced today, August 31, that forward Tyler Johnson has signed a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) with the team.
In 2011, Tampa Bay signed the native of Spokane, Washington, as a free agent.
Players who have a PTO are given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities throughout training camp and persuade teams to add them to the starting lineup once the season begins.
The 34-year-old center, who is 5’8″, collected 431 points in 738 games during his career while playing for the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning. His career is even more noteworthy because he was never selected in the NHL draft.
Notably, he won two Stanley Cups with the Lightning during their back-to-back victories.
Together with Connor Bedard and the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, Johnson managed to record 17 goals and 14 assists in the previous campaign.
Since David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron announced their retirements at the end of the 2022–2023 season, the Bruins have been searching for depth at the center position. Elias Lindholm was a major offseason addition, but with Tyler Johnson, the center line doesn’t appear to be as thin.
