On Sunday, September 1, the Indiana Fever defeated the Dallas Wings, 100-93, to record their fourth straight victory, and it wasn’t only Caitlin Clark who stole the show.
In this game, All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell also found his scoring groove, scoring 36 points on 12 of 22 shooting, three assists, six rebounds, and five three-pointers. Clark, who went off for 28 points, four boards, twelve assists, and five threes, wasn’t terrible either.
Mitchell and Clark combined for 64 points on 53.7 percent of the field. Additionally, they made 10-of-18 shots from beyond the arc to help Indiana win its sixth game in seven since the Olympics ended a month ago. However, Mitchell wasn’t able to completely see how exceptional her connection with Clark was that evening until after the win.
Mitchell was in shock when she heard their jaw-dropping figures and could barely find the right phrase to describe how she felt about her amazing accomplishment with Clark. “Wow,” exclaimed Mitchell. “I think that me and Caitlin, as well as our crew, I think we just found a way to, for one, understand one another,” Mitchell stated. “I think our pace is kinda setting us apart from a lot of different teams.” Nothing here seems to be false. Mitchell and Clark have averaged an incredible 50.4 points apiece in their past five games. For their upcoming game, this celebrity combo will now aim to maintain a high level of performance. This is a Wednesday, September 4th game versus the Los Angeles Sparks, who are currently ranked last. In that one, expect even more fireworks from these two.
