Many were taken aback by the Los Angeles Rams’ unexpected trade of linebacker Ernest Jones to the Tennessee Titans. Along with the Titans’ sixth-round pick in the same NFL Draft year, the Rams also received a fifth-round pick in exchange.

The rumours that Jones was given permission to look into options with other teams preceded this move. Monday, he did not show up for practice, which fueled rumors about his future.

Jones deleted the social media message he had originally made rejecting any request for a trade. The head coach of the Rams affirmed that Jones had not requested a trade.

It was said that the team made a calculated move in trading Jones. The coaching staff thought it would benefit the Rams in the long run. Throughout his three seasons with the Rams, Jones has been an invaluable member of the team. He recorded a sack in the championship game and was instrumental in the Rams’ victory in Super Bowl LVI. In the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones—who is about to enter the last year of his rookie contract—was selected. This season, the team’s defensive lineup gap will have to be filled by younger players.
